The Miami Township Police Department is planning added enforcement of Ohio’s DUI laws during the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over winter campaign, December 17 – December 31, 2022, including the Christmas and New Year holidays.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), one person is killed every 50 minutes in a drunk-driving crash, totaling more than 10,500 lives lost each year.
“Just one DUI death is too many, especially during the holiday season,” Sgt. James McCarty, Miami Township Police Department, said. “By adding extra patrols, we can focus more attention on not only getting impaired drivers off the road, but also reduce the number of traffic crashes and keep people safer on the roadway. There is zero tolerance for DUI.”
Funds to support the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign are part of a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration grant the police department received for 2022. Other recent campaigns include the Move Over, Slow Down campaign, Distracted Driving campaign, and Click It or Ticket.
