Miami Township Police Officer Tyler Simpson is recovering at home after he was struck by a pickup truck Saturday night, April 21, 2018, while investigating two crashes on the highway.
Miami Township officers responded to southbound Interstate 75 near the State Route 725 exit at approximately 9:20 p.m. on reports of a vehicle that hit a pole and a second crash nearby. Officer Simpson was struck at 9:30 p.m. by a pickup truck that then fled the scene. The OSP arrested Adam Blackmore, 33, of Miamisburg, eight minutes later. He is out of jail on bond, charged with OVI and traffic-related charges.
Officer Simpson, 28, started his career with the Miami Township Police Department in September 2012. He was removed to Kettering Medical Center by the Miami Valley Fire District for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. He is now resting at home for what is expected to be a lengthy recovery.
