Winners in the first Canstruction competition in the Miami Valley in the last decade were announced Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018, during an awards gala at LJB, Inc. The winners in each of six categories are:

  • People's Choice - Fortnite Llama by CESO (Structure that received the most votes from Dayton Mall visitors who ‘liked’ their favorites on the Canstruction Facebook page)
  • Original Design – Picnic by Henny Penny (Structure that displays a uniquely creative design)
  • Structural Ingenuity – Carillon Tower by Danis (Best use of math and physics to help the structure defy gravity and stand in position)
  • Best Use of Labels – Link from Zelda by Expedient Technology Solutions (Best variety of cans that helps design of the structure be articulated by the labels)
  • Best Meal – ABC Cares by OVABC (Provides best variety of cans that would be most useful for a complete, well-balanced meal)
  • Most Cans – Hard Hat by Ferguson Construction Company (Used a total of 7,489 cans)

Canstruction challenged 11 teams from area businesses to build giant sculptures out of canned goods. The exhibits, along with donations from Dayton Mall visitors, collected 30,986 pounds of canned goods that were donated to The Foodbank. The Ohio Valley Associated Builders and Contractors organized the event alongside The Foodbank, Miami Township and our generous sponsors. Old Navy employees volunteered to ‘decanstruct’ the sculptures.
