Rumpke web update 1 112217

Starting January 1, 2018, trash collection services in Miami Township will be handled by Rumpke Waste and Recycling Services. The Board of Trustees voted unanimously at its Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, meeting to contract with Rumpke once the current contract with Waste Management expires.

“This new contract will save our residents money,” Andrew Papanek, trustee president, said. “The township services about 7,500 homes, so the potential savings equals roughly $180,000 a year.”

The new three-year deal does require the township to move trash pickup to a five-day service plan instead of the current single-day pickup. Some residents will see their pickup day change from the current Wednesday schedule, but their new pickup day will remain consistent. Recycling services will remain on a bi-weekly schedule. Rumpke will supply new 95-pound trash totes and recycling bins to residents, and will soon supply a map that will demonstrate the multi-day pickup schedule for each of five zones.

Miami Township and Rumpke are working closely together to finalize the collection plan. Residents will receive any critical updates through the township website, township social media, by Rumpke, and other avenues as necessary, while the transfer of services proceeds. Residents are encouraged to visit regularly and follow us on Facebook/miamitownship and Twitter @miamitownship for updates and informationconcerning any public meetings that might be scheduled.
